"Quotation: The act of repeating erroneously the words of another."
-Ambrose Bierce

"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense."

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Do The Right Thing and sign up HERE.

Message from El Presidente.

PASADENA, Cal.--It has been over two years since the 2001 reunion in South Bend and the further we get away from that wonderful weekend the closer we are to fully recapturing our past. The archive drive, stalled for a time, has come back into focus with renewed energy and direction. And there is now a concerted effort to gather all the existing BOC bits we have (there's a lot) and commit them to VHS and DVD with, get this, commentaries (see story, below).

But we have a long way to go. And it isn't going to be cheap. Currently many of these projects are being handled by a few folks, out of pocket. But a resurgence in the "wheat paste and chicken wire" spirit has brought more alums into the archive drive. January 1 will be the official date to renew or start your membership in the BOCTVAA. Take a moment and contribute whatever you can to our efforts toward keeping the website up and the archiving underway. Donations made that are above the dues contribution level are tax deductible (dues and the purchase of any BOC items from the store are not).

Speaking of archiving, if you have any BOC material (scripts, poopsheets, pictures, or articles), an internet connection and a scanner, you can contribute to the archive drive. Scan that material into a high-quality 8x11 JPEG image and email it to me or Dave Bashover. Take a look at the "Seasons," listed on the History Pages and you'll get a good idea of some of the gaps that we want to fill.

It took us almost two decades to create this legacy. My sincerest hope is that in two years we will be able to compile it and make it yours. again.

Best Wishes,
-David Simkins.

BOC News

COLUMBIA CITY, Ind.-- Marco, Erik Möllberg's Golden Retriever mix, has found his voice, but seldom raises it.

The same could not be said for his canine houseguest.

"Minutes emailed," Mr. Möllberg shrieked, "Looking forward to new troupe of BOCers-- want to help?" he hollered, the Tropical Yowler dog he and Marco were baby-sitting for a comely she-friend of Mr. Möllberg's baying in the background like forty demons. The upcoming Membership Drive, Mr. Möllberg indicated between cacophonies, was a project very dear to his heart.

Mr. Möllberg recently arranged for the dissemination of updated email addresses for all BOCs members, using the kind and circumspect offices of Membership Chairperson Mary Willems-Armstrong to do so-- and as Secretary has sent minutes off to everybody. Mr. Möllberg emphasized if anyone did not receive a copy of the BOC Minutes and would like one, to please write him at Emollberg@Acpl.Lib.In.Us, and he

would respond with a copy, or a location on the Web page where the minutes and other business matters could be found.

Mr. Möllberg, in addition to carrying the responsibilities of the office of BOC Secretary, has been working closely with Ms Willems-Armstrong in beefing up the BOC alumni group's member-base, and took care to mention Ms Willems-Armstong's significant participation.

"We're keeping up with membership-- but we're always happy to see new people," he screamed.

"Tip of the hat to Mary-- " he said, and then the line went dead.

SOUTH BEND, Ind.-- Film-maker, creative force, and bon vivant BOC Treasurer Don Corthier is making more of his BOC office than just counting beans. In addition to helming the BOC alumni group's Treasury Department, he is contributing to the effort to archive and distribute what he has called "classic" BOC shows, holding down the South Bend end of the nationwide archive effort.

Mr. Corthier is currently developing "commentary"-type audio tracks, recorded by genuine BOC directors, actors and craftspeople. Just like in professionally released DVDs, these commentaries will be available to back the shows on selectable audio tracks.

"We encourage every alumni who is interested to email us if they think they might like to participate in the DVD commentaries," he said.

According to Mr. Corthier, BOC's crack team of archivists, led by BOC president and Hollywood producer David Simkins, are currently assembling a delectable selection of BOC TV archaeology.

"We're doing the Hugo tape, the 80s, the 60s, and four of the 1970s volumes," Mr. Corthier said. The company will reproduce about six separate hour-long programs this season alone, releasing new volumes on a regular basis.

"Met with Joe, Marcia Blodgett-Sindone, Karen Sue (Janowiak) and Tom Labuzienski today around lunch and caught their comments on digital tape for our first sixties compilation. We all laughed and then we all went home," he said. "We're shooting for a few releases out by Thanksgiving."

Don Corthier can be reached, but not suborned, at corthier@aol.com.

CYBER NEWS

Now that the Web page and archiving efforts are fully up and running, committees are at work, and a second cabinet of officers has been elected, the renaissance of "Beyond Our Control," the "TV show about TV," continues.

For a lot of older and old fricatives like us (speaking only for us, of course) this crush of the spatial and chronological Before into a new Now has been a great fillip, a notoriously satisfying inducement to revisit yet renew.

To bring that fossilized backstory to life appears to be a project of interest to a number of veterans of the show, including, but not limited to:

David Bashover
Dennis Mooney Circus-Szalewski
Don Corthier
Joe Dundon
KarenSue Janowiak
Thomas Labuzienski
Danny Lakin
Lee Lodyga
William Loring
Erik Möllberg
Liza Moon
Jana Morse
Charles Mueller
Karen Sears
Tim Shaw
Charles Sheridan
David Sutton
Brian Ulicny
Mary Willems-Armstrong
Kevin Zimmerman

The ethical and productive functioning of bright and energetic people in creative bemusement will always be the hallmark of BOC.
